    Course Description:
    iMovie is a tool that provides opportunities for learning and the kind of teaching that emphasizes critical thinking, teamwork, consensus building and communication. Taking a collaborative approach to defining the topic or theme of the presentation, working with photos, text, Images, graphics, sound and/or video and editing the project is essential for success and will be the emphasis of this course. A hands-on approach to learning iMovie and online forums will allow participants to share ideas and collaborate as they develop their project.

    Course Goals: At the conclusion of the Digital Storytelling course, teachers will:
    • have an introductory level of understanding of using iMovie to support teaching and learning in English Language Arts and in all core academic classes.
    • reflect on BPS priorities of developing higher level thinking skills, relevant research, key concepts, factual information, and explore communication styles that will be used to demonstrate learning.
    • plan instructional strategies with iMovie that allows for reaching the diverse learning styles of their students and differentiate instruction.
    • use digital photos, scanned images, graphics, audio and/or video to demonstrate deeper understanding of context and conceptual knowledge of the topic or theme while using iMovie as an instructional tool.
    Course Organization:
    iMovie will be a hands-on approach to learning and developing skills needed to make a digital movie. An online discussion forum will be used as a collaborative tool utilizing a Wiki. Working with iLife software and Microsoft suite that each participant has readily available on
    their L4L laptop will be used as editing tools. Demonstrations on how to develop graphics and the use of pdf files will be explored for importing into iMovie.

    Expectations/Requirements:
    • Attend classes
    • Active participation in online assignments and forums
    • Complete evaluation surveys (pre and post)
    Final Project:
    1. Completion of a storyboard (outline of the iMovie)
    2. Completion of a 4-6 minute video
    3. Completion of a lesson plan for implementation of iMovie
    Prerequisites:
    • Must have access to a Macintosh computer.
    • Mastery of Early Technology (TSAT) skills.
    Course Credit 15 PDPs – 1 In-Service Credit
