TEXT-TO-SPEECH (Reads text on both the Mac and WIN sides).
You can set your Mac to speak text aloud that has been “selected” or highlighted in most any software program, and on web sites. If the text can be selected, it can be spoken.
STEPS:
-
Go to System Preferences on the dock or under the Apple menu and select Speech.
-
Click on Text-to-Speech.
-
At System Voice, scroll down to select a voice. Alex is Apple’s new excellent high quality voice.
-
Select desired Speaking Rate.
-
Hit Play to hear the voice spoken.
-
Click on the box marked Speak selected text when the key is pressed.
-
If no keys have been previously selected, a window will open asking you to type in “modifier” keys – the keys that will activate the speech function.
-
Just hit the keys (don’t type the names of the keys) that you want as the “modifier” keys, and they will appear in the window. Command & T (for talk) are a good choice. Click OK.
-
If keys were previously selected, the Set Key button will be in bold letters. Click on Set Key and hit the “modifier” keys you want. Click OK.
-
Select the system voice you want and the rate of speed. Hit Play to try out the voice. Click the redcircle at the far left on the menu bar to exit.
