"My computer can't get on the internet?
You first need to make sure that your computer has an active network connection. If you are using an ethernet connection (landline):
1. Check to make sure the Ethernet jack is plugged into both the computer and the data jack in the wall.
2. Test connection using the IPCONFIG command in MS-DOS. Go to Start>>Run>>type in CMD and hit enter. At the command prompt, type in IPCONFIG. You must have a valid IP address of 192.168.xxx.xxx to trust your ethernet connection. If you have a valid IP address, open up your web browser and test the internet connection.
3. If computer is still not connecting, plug in another computer (desktop or laptop) to the same jack to see if it will connect. If the second computer doesn’t connect, check with others to see if your building is having any connectivity issues, and/or check with your TST to see if your jack is active in the server closet.
If you are using a wireless connection:
1. For connecting MacBooks to the BPS wireless network, see the following:
2. For connecting the PC’s to the BPS wireless network, the Intel PROSet/Wireless utility must be installed and configured properly. First, right click over the My Network Places icon and locate the hardware name of the wireless connection installed in your laptop.
3. Go to Google and type into the search window, "Intel Proset Wireless Utility (hardware name of wireless connection)." Download and install the program
4. Call the OIIT Service Desk for further instructions as posting this material is not allowed for security purposes.
