    Hardware

Is the computer/monitor/printer or scanner plugged into a working electrical outlet?

Is the power cord loose connecting the hardware to the electrical outlet? (This happens a lot with monitors).

Is the computer/monitor/printer or scanner turned on?

    Is the CD inserted properly?

Is the floppy disk inserted properly?

Is the USB Jump Drive inserted correctly? (Remember to properly eject the Jump Drive before you pull it out of the USB slot).

If a computer says disk error or not a system disk remove the diskette from the A: drive or the Jump Drive from the USB slot then hit the enter key. The computer will resume start up or shut down. If not, contact your building TST.

    Software

Can you see the operating system logo on your screen during start up? (i.e. Windows 2000, XP, MAC OS).

Do you see error messages? Record the message and give to your building TST

Is the application program frozen? Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The Windows Security window appears. Select Task Manager > Applications tab. Select the application and click End Task. (PC)

How many applications are open? (Many programs use a lot of disk space when they are open. Please be sure to close each program after you are finished with it.)

    Try rebooting your computer.
